I've practiced Yoga over half my lifetime and began teaching it in my late 20s. I'm now 40.

For me, Yoga is a tool to access more of myself.

London is saturated with Yoga teachers, every Tom, Dick and Hare has a certificate to teach. IMO (at least) a piece of paper does not make a Yoga teacher and in fact, some of my best teachers I'm quite sure don't possess one! But what they do have, is a reputation for being great and they've earned their accreditation through being and not simply doing a course. Over the years, I've experienced multiple injuries and my body is far from perfect. I put flexibility down to having Ukranian heritage - Ukraine producing some of the best gymnasts in the world. My elbows hyper-extend which can be difficult to manage, I can get sciatica and, I gave myself a considerable neck injury too where even jumping back on my mat was an impossible feat, not to mention lifting my head off a pillow after intense strain. I can laugh now recalling rolling over and hauling my head up with my hand. Heads are heavy! But at the time, it was scary. The injuries have all served to inform me - teach me. Finally, I have feet that pose some 'challenges'.

I've been on retreats, even managed them, been to India, practiced from Mysore to Miami, done multiple silent retreats (Vippasana) - which I highly recommend to anyone! Done therapy (to an extent), read many books on Yoga, esoteric practices and Spirituality in general as well as, a few self-help ones - I particularly like Nicole LePera for her holistic approach to pyschology. I also quite enjoy cold water therapy - especially after giving myself hypothermia swimming in Kenwood ladies pond once. Now I know what that feels like too! LOL but NOT.

I don't have many photos of me practicing Yoga. I think the culture of capturing everything on camera can suck it dry of it's sacredness.
